      <image:title>Our Philosophy - Our Philosophy</image:title>
<image:caption>At The Children's Meetinghouse, we believe that imagination, wonder, discovery, and delight serve as the cornerstones of teaching and learning. We place priority on honoring their importance, and follow an emergent curriculum rooted in play. Our teachers are encouraged and supported to develop curriculum that places value on the children as creators and contributors, and offers ample opportunity for all students to gain confidence as active, independent thinkers. A child's curiosity and imagination can lead to months of investigations and learning experiences. Interest explored at school can encourage real parent involvement in the curriculum. We believe the children, teachers, and parents are part of one big community who work together to make the children’s learning visible. Our philosophy at The Children’s Meetinghouse is strongly influenced by the Reggio Emilia Philosophy where we believe the children have One Hundred Languages. Loris Malaguzzi, founder of the early childhood schools in Reggio Emilia, Italy, once said “The child has a hundred languages, a hundred hands, a hundred thoughts, a hundred ways of thinking, of playing, of speaking, and a hundred, hundred more.” It is our mission to listen, create and explore with the children while using their One Hundred Languages. Children are naturally curious with a sense of wonder and here at TCM we strive to promote curiosity, independence, and investigation.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Amanda enjoys her role as the Director at TCM. Having previously worked as a Preschool Teacher at TCM, she is willing to bring to life her love to the Reggio Emilia Philosophy. In 2017 she was able to take a work study tour of the schools in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Bringing back her experience and knowledge of the Philosophy, she has recreated and brought to life the important factors of the beautiful Philosophy. Working with emergent curriculum, documentation, and making learning visible to the community are just a few of her favorite things to do as a teacher and Director. Amanda lives in Billerica, Ma spending most of her free time taking photos and spending time with family.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Nicole is so excited to continue her teaching journey at TCM! She has a passion for teaching which started when she was in 5th grade! She is Lead Teacher Certified in Preschool by the Department of Early Education and Care. She believes each child is unique in their interests and learning patterns; and that learning and growing stems from the relationships and environment you create. She looks forward to creating a curriculum based upon this. Outside of TCM she enjoys dancing, her Peloton, spending time with her family, especially her dog, and exploring the outdoors with her husband!</image:caption>

Her two grown daughters attended TCM years ago and she loves being back in this nurturing space. Liz loves to read, write, ski, needlepoint, and bake. She also takes lots of walks on the conservation trails in Concord and Carlisle with her dog Roscoe. She spends a lot of time in NYC visiting her daughters who are both teachers now! Her favorite ice cream is peanut butter chip ice cream at Kimball’s Farm! She is very excited for the school year and loves learning alongside our imaginative and creative preschoolers.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Savannah is excited to start this new school year with TCM in the infant-toddler room. She discovered teaching in 2019 and fell in love with it. Ever since Savannah has stayed in the education sector, she has experience in special education and of course lots of infant experience. She lives the beauty of Concord, and the small town community that is present. Having grown up in rural Texas, a small community feels very nostalgic and comforting. Outside of school Savannah loves rock-climbing, hiking and many outdoor activities. She also enjoys caring for her grandmother, and cuddling with her two cats.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I joined TCM with over 15 years of experience in early childhood classrooms and the private sector as a nanny. I have my Bachelors in Information and Library Science and I am a qualified teacher in both infant/toddler and preschool from the Department of Early Childhood and Care. My love for teaching stems from a caregiver I adored when I was a child. She instilled a great passion in me for learning and understanding the world through exploration and I wanted to pass that same love and curiosity on to others. I was drawn to TCM because of its play and nature-based curriculum, as well as the school’s connection with the community and its members. Creating and maintaining relationships with families is incredibly important to me and my method of teaching. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my daughter and family, reading, watching football and taking walks.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Preschool - Let’s Build!</image:title>
<image:caption>Children in the Preschool program range in age from two years nine months through five years old. Our program utilizes mixed age groupings in a multifaceted, exploratory curriculum where childhood is embraced and celebrated! The preschool is led by a team of experienced teachers who utilize their vast knowledge of child development and early childhood educational standards to design curriculum that supports each child's social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and pre-math and literacy development. The group size is up to 16 children with two classroom teachers and an additional teacher during most of the morning. The preschool classroom features a variety of play areas and centers. In the centers, children are encouraged to make choices and discover more about themselves and their world, with teacher stimulation and guidance. The play areas are set up to promote artistic, scientific, sensory, verbal, written, and mathematical skill-building. The space invites dramatic play, sensory play, science exploration, as well as writing tables, art areas, and a book area. A typical day includes free play, meeting time, stories, group activities and projects, all of which take place in a multi-arts curriculum. Nature exploration, sand and water play, lots of outdoor time are an essential part of the children’s day. Morning and afternoon snack is provided by the school. Children bring lunch and eat together in the classroom.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Emergent Curriculum - What is Emergent Curriculum?</image:title>
<image:caption>When teaching an emergent curriculum, educators acknowledge that learning and planning emerges from interests. We build from the curiosity and investigation present in the play environment. Emergent curriculum focuses on a child’s sense of wonder and asks teachers to learn alongside children in the role of a researcher. Young children learn best through play . By actively observing children at play, teachers learn about the developmental progress of individual children and what skills and knowledge they are working on. They listen to children's ideas and interests, and then connect their curriculum goals with those of the children in responsive and creative ways. Young children learn by doing, touching, experimenting, choosing, talking, and negotiating. Everything is potential curriculum for young children. Emergent curriculum is planning what happens in the classroom and the focus of learning through interaction between teachers and children. The emergent curriculum project approach builds on interests that emerge from the teacher’s daily lives with the children. The children provide the ideas that form a foundation for activities and units of study that are then prepared, organized, coordinated, and facilitated by the teachers. Emergent curriculum arises naturally from interactions that create teachable moments. It connects learning with experience and prior knowledge. It responds to children's immediate interests rather than focusing on a narrow, individual, pre-packaged, or calendar driven topic. It emphasizes process rather than product. The curriculum is typically implemented after an idea emerges from the group of children and can last for several weeks or even months. The fundamental approach of the emergent curriculum utilized at The Children’s Meetinghouse is to identify and incorporate the natural interests and curiosities of the children in the classrooms in order to develop units of study that are relative, age-appropriate, and meaningful.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Infant/Toddler - Exploring Light Together!</image:title>
<image:caption>Children in our Infant/Toddler program are between the ages of four months and two years nine months, after which time they become eligible for the Preschool program. An important aspect of the program devoted to very young children is the low child to teacher ratio. It allows for careful attention to be given to each individual child. There are up to nine children with three teachers in the classroom per day. The teaching team creates a secure and comfortable environment in which children can grow and naturally develop social, emotional, cognitive, and physical skills at their own pace. The daily schedule includes free play, planned group activities and projects, reading and quiet time, circle time, songs, snack, and outdoor play. Sunny windows and cozy play areas invite the young child in the environment and provide a nurturing, cozy, home-like feel.</image:caption>
